Toby – a poem

This poem was published, along with ‘Blue‘, in May 2018 in The Oxonian Review here

Toby

An island idyll:

cobble-sand streets

softly crumbling down

to the pearl-white beach

– bright as the inside

of the coconut

whose milk we sucked through straws

and cracked open

to eat

the soft dairy flesh.

Heat melted in seawater

the same tacky blue

as bubblegum ice cream.
