Prickles – a poem

Prickles

whiskers, tickling;

beetle-black nose

sniffed the sticky pool:

wet cardboard cavern

of a kicked-over cup.

pebble-dash tongue

lapped —

two twenty-somethings

danced drunk with a door.

claw-tipped paws

carried prickles back to bed;

wobbling to the hedge

whiskey sours fluffing

his frosted-tip head.
